Founder of Invention Solar and the first CMO of Momentum Solar. I’ve spent my career building solar leads that installers actually close.
I’m Jim Alamia. I build solar leads and lead-generation systems for a living, and I’ve been in this industry long enough to know the difference between a lead that turns into an install and one that just burns a rep’s afternoon.
Most people who sell solar leads have never sat on the other side of the table. I have. Before I built Invention Solar, I ran growth inside solar companies, including a stretch as the first CMO of Momentum Solar back when it was one of the fastest-growing residential installers in the country. Since then, I’ve held executive roles at other solar companies, including SunPower and many other regional dealers and EPC companies in the Northeast.
So when I talk about what a good solar lead looks like, it isn’t theory. I’ve had to answer for the numbers.

The long way into solar leads
My route here was a little sideways. I started on Wall Street, writing trading and clearing systems for firms like Citicorp, Nasdaq, Pershing, and Bear Stearns, with a math degree from Pace University behind me. That work taught me to think in systems and to trust data over gut feel.
In 2003 I left all that and started my first company in digital marketing. I’ve been building lead generation businesses ever since, more than twenty five years of watching how people find, research, and buy things online. Solar became the place I spent a good amount of that attention.
Sitting inside a solar company as the person responsible for growth changed how I see this whole business. I learned what a sales floor actually needs, how fast a lead goes cold, and how much money gets wasted on volume that never had a chance. When I started building solar leads myself, I built them for the floor, not for a spreadsheet.
What I build now
Invention Solar generates solar leads that convert. That means preset solar appointments booked and ready for a rep to run, solar live transfers handed straight to your team while the homeowner is still on the line, and call center data clean enough that your contact rates hold up. In a business where contact rate is the whole game, the quality of the data is what keeps our clients with us. Cheap lists are everywhere. Data that actually connects is not.
I care about that part more than anything, because I’ve watched good sales teams get wrecked by bad data. Bad leads, stale records, wrong numbers, inadequate systems. It kills morale before it kills the deal. So we hold our data to the standard I’d have demanded when I was the one running the floor.
Seeing the market before it turns
The thing I’ve always been able to do is feel the market moving before it moves. Solar runs in waves. The channels homeowners use to shop change, incentives shift, financing quietly rewrites what a project really costs, and the price of a lead can swing hard in a single season. The companies that win are the ones already set up for the change before everyone else notices it’s happening.
I spend a lot of my time reading those signals and moving our system out ahead of them, instead of scrambling once the whole market has already turned. That instinct is why Invention Solar tends to be early rather than late.
The technology behind it
We also built InventionX, and it’s the part I’m proudest of. It puts the entire process online. You order your solar leads, pick your products, track delivery, and manage your campaigns in one dashboard, in real time, without the back and forth the old way ran on.
On top of that, we build technology that helps solar companies get found. Not just traditional SEO for Google, but GEO, getting your business surfaced inside the AI answer engines homeowners now ask before they ever open a search tab. That shift is already underway, and most solar companies aren’t ready for it. We are.
I’m based in New Jersey. I still answer my own email, and I still get a kick out of taking a system apart to see how it runs. That’s basically what I do all day now, just with better tools than I had on Wall Street.
If you sell solar or home services and you’re tired of paying for leads that go nowhere, that’s the exact problem I built Invention Solar to fix. Reach out through the site. It comes to me and my team.
